“I have taught creative writing during my 73 years. First, at the University of Iowa in 1965. After that came Harvard, and then the City College of NY. I don’t do it anymore. In 1996, with movies and TV doing such good jobs of holding the attention of literates and illiterates alike, I have to question the value of my (teachings). Why bother?
